A
word from the founders
Cead Mile Failte (hello and welcome)
to Solo.ie,
A site offering Support for People Parenting Alone!
It
was Christmas Eve, my Son is in bed and I'm downstairs preparing.
It's not easy being a lone parent. It is not easy assuming the
responsibility of two. There are dragging moments of loneliness
and many others battling the daily practicalities, school pickup,
washing and cooking not mentioning the minefield of legal implications.
I started this support web site on Christmas eve, '99, after
tucking my son into bed, doing the Santa routine, and been left
feeling very lonely. I was thinking about all the lone parents
around Ireland and indeed the world, and how they where coping
at this time of the year, knowing it to be a family time.
I
refused to accept these restrictions and over the festive season
did something positive. I designed this web site and called
it Solo Parents, which is dedicated to lone parents and their
issues. In April 2000 Project Solo became Solo.ie and from that
I have never look back. The site has grown from a hand full
of pages to a vast library of information on issues concerning
single parentage.
The
site theme is not restricted to lone parents but carries useful
information for every parent. On the site you can find, local
and world events, government reports, referral sites and the
latest news on single parentage and much more. My Son even helps
out now with his Just for Kids page, where children can have
fun too, all the sites on this page have been check out by Son.
Cinema guide for PG films, a bookstore where you can buy on
line and the site is updated weekly.
We have comprehensive list of world-wide links. If you have
or know of a site that would be a great link for this site please
let me know and I will be happy to add it to the collection!
I hope that you will find this site useful! I would like to
thank everyone who has visited this site, and especially those
who have taken the time to sign our guest book, or taken the
time to e-mail us personally. It means a great deal to us to
know that we are helping someone out there, or to hear some
ideas on site improvement. But most importantly the site connects
people with people.
Thank
you!
