There are 989 Lone Parents
in Monaghan
These
are the figures for the end of June 2003
as compiled by the Pension Services Office,
Department of Social Community and Family Affairs.
The figures are for people
who are in receipt for Lone Parent type
payments in the Republic of Ireland.
According
to EUROSTAT, 1998, approximately 14% of Irish
families are headed by a lone parent.
'Parents
and Children Together'
('PaCT'),
A
newly formed non-profit, self-help group for single parents and
their children in County Monaghan.
The group aims to support lone parents and their children in the
difficulties they face in everyday life.
We hope to produce an information pack for local lone parents,
run social events and provide training and support. Anyone interested
in joining should contact:
M eeting 7pm on the first Monday of every month (excluding August
and January)
at the Community Centre (next to Dunnes Stores), Broad Road, Monaghan.
A creche will be provided for younger children
but please ring Pamela, (047) 72512, in advance if you need a
creche place.
